Passages Of Life

“Passages of Life”

Notes from the artist regarding the painting:

In 2004 I realized I was fast approaching the age of 60.  Life’s journey was not a mountain climb but rather a missile shot through time.  How could I possibly be that “old”?  After all a part of me was still that teenager loving to dance to music my father called “noise”.  I had completed the first “Passages” and I loved the process of painting the clouds.  Putting different colors into the palette of my clouds was so much fun and really pushed the envelope of my comfort zone.  I could reflect colors from an emerging sun, after all on my canvas I can create any world I’m inspired to paint.

Clouds represent heavenly blessings and wisdom.  Life has certainly been a learning experiment for me and I knew there was wisdom in my being.  Air, the breath of Life, has been a love since I was a child.  I loved the wind in my face, flying kites and roller skating.  As I relax it is my breath that becomes the focus of awareness.

The wave represents the power of Life.  It can be beautiful and it can be dangerous.  The ocean has been a place of cleansing and a place of great respect for me.  Water is a major key to Life.

The ribbons were the DNA of individuals crossing paths along the journey of Life.  Ribbons are on packages at holiday and birthday celebrations.  They were in my hair on special occasions.  They represent the joy of Life.

The original was auctioned with the bidding starting at $5,000 and gifted to the Frank DeLima Children’s Foundation in Honolulu.
